In other words, you have to open the door, step out and reach around the glass door to get your items on the hook. The hooks for one's robe/towel is opposite the opening of the shower door. I stupidly assumed I would be able to just walk in just like I had the "steam" shower and stumbled badly but didn't fall.Īnother point with the regular shower, and this may be small, but it is indicative of the lack of thought in designing the Poseidon Spa. The normal shower has about a one foot step up to get in. With the steam stall, you just walk in, i.e. The other shower stall is directly across from the one with the steam. But, save yourself some time and money and just turn your own shower at home to hot, and you'll get the same thing you'll get at Poseidon (actually, your own shower will be hotter). I went back to the locker room afterwards, and luckily, the shower stall with the steam had been left on and there was no one in it. It wasn't even a particularly good one either, but I've had worse but not at a place that thinks itself a world class hotel and spa. It was supposed to have been a hot stone massage it wasn't. I finally got up and went back to the locker room and sat on the bench until it was time for my massage. I sat there in a robe, listening to some woman complain about the prices to the front desk staff because the "relaxation room" is by the front door. Every person who walks by looks in, including the staff. This room is in a high traffic area at the entrance of the spa. It's not segregated, so I had to "relax" with three giggling school girls. I was led to a room with no doors or privacy. I was invited to have a seat in the "relaxation room." It was NOT relaxing. The locker room was small and there was no area to relax. There are only two showers in the mens locker room one is the "steam shower." I suppose I can take a steam if I let it heat up and if there isn't a line of men waiting to use it. I guess I should have come 30 minutes early. I also was not told that, per the sign on the shower door, that it takes 15 minutes for the steam to heat up. I was not told that there was no steam room, just a normal shower that had a steam pipe in it. I was told I might want to come 15 minutes early to enjoy the steam room before my massage. That's the best I can say about this place. I don’t think the value is there for this service, I would advise skipping this Spa. The cost was somewhat higher than I pay for a massage in the Washington, DC area – and the quality was lower than what I get at home. The locker room did have a wide variety of toiletries available which was nice. The locker area’s shower was nice but did take a few minutes before the water got warm. This really detracted from the massage – it is nice to wind down and take your time before getting dressed. When we were finished we were led to the same seating area – not comfortable enough to want to stay for more than just a few minutes. She just spent too much time in some places and not enough “working out” the knots in others. While she was strong enough for my tastes, the massage was not great. I thought this was a universal question – but I guess not. During the massage, she really didn’t ask about how the massage was going. While she did ask if there were focus areas, she either didn’t remember or decided to skimp on them. The seats were not very comfortable and did not set the tone to get a person into a relaxing state. The seating area was ok – they had a fruit and nuts platter and some water. The slippers were not big enough either – I was given the largest they have and my heel was hanging over the back of the slipper by about an inch. When I asked about getting a larger one, I was told this was the largest robe they had. In addition, it was tight to close and not soft at all. The arms did not reach my wrist – they barely covered my elbow. The robe was way too small for me – I’m not a huge guy but I shouldn’t worry about inadvertently flashing someone because the bottom of the robe is not long enough to properly cover a person. The locker rooms are behind the nail/hair salon. She may have been the highlight of the spa. The woman at the front desk was very nice and helpful. Since we were both getting massages, we had to fill out paperwork disclosing any injuries etc. I thought it helped get you into a mode to relax, but she did not. I didn’t mind that the spa was very dark, but as my wife put it “dark isn’t ambience”. This was very convenient as we were staying at that particular hotel. The Poseidon Spa is in the basement of the Mansion on Forsyth Park. Going to the spa with my wife is one of the staples of our trips and we usually come away feeling like it was time and money well spent. I really had high hopes for the Poseidon Spa.
